Standing on ancient stone steps beside huge astronomical dials, an observer contemplates a skyline of glass towers and temple spires reflected in the river beneath a celestial comet. In the Brahma-Vaiṣṇava theology, time (kāla) is not a blind mechanical force, but an active potency of Bhagavān that inexorably dissolves all material monuments, directing the wise soul to seek eternal refuge in the Supreme Person who commands the cosmos.
